The PS3's Package Manager only recognizes PKG files stored in specific locations. If your PKG isn't appearing, try moving it to a folder named "Packages" on your USB drive, or use a file manager like MultiMAN to copy the PKG to /dev_hdd0/packages/ on your internal HDD and install from there. Also, confirm your USB drive is formatted to FAT32, as NTFS drives are not readable by the PS3's native Package Manager.

The PS3's operating system (CellOS) uses the .pkg (package) format for installing software, including games, DLC, updates, and homebrew applications. Each piece of paid or licensed content is protected by a DRM activation file with a .rap extension (RAP stands for "Rif and Act.dat Package"). On official firmware (OFW), a RAP file is silently generated via PlayStation Network authentication.
