The Auditor, played by Tunnicliffe himself, is arguably the standout character of the film. Dressed in a drab, mid-century clerk's suit, carrying a typewriter, and covered in subtle, blood-weeping wounds, the Auditor processes the sins of humanity. He literally types out the confessions of the guilty, which are then physically ingested by the Assessor, regurgitated, and judged by a chorus of deformed women known as the Jury.

This sequence represents a sharp stylistic shift for the franchise. While Clive Barker’s original vision focused on the intersection of extreme pleasure and agonizing pain, Tunnicliffe’s vision shifts toward industrial, stagnant, and institutional filth. The Inquisition operates out of an abandoned, rain-slicked house in a mundane suburban neighborhood, suggesting that hell is not just a distant dimension, but an administrative machine operating right next door. A massive executioner who physically prepares the guilty bodies for punishment.

For fans of Clive Barker’s seminal 1987 horror masterpiece, the road to Hellraiser: Judgment (2018) has been a long and winding descent into direct-to-video purgatory. By the time the tenth installment in the franchise arrived, the beloved Cenobites had been through hell and back—literally. Sequels like Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) were notorious for their shoestring budgets, rushed productions (shot in just three weeks), and a near-total lack of input from Barker himself. : On Earth, a vicious serial killer known as "The Preceptor" is terrorizing the city, committing murders based on the Ten Commandments. Three detectives are on the case: brothers Sean (Damon Carney) and David Carter (Randy Wayne), and Christine Egerton (Alexandra Harris). Their investigation leads them to an abandoned house where Sean is pulled into the Inquisition's realm.

Tunnicliffe, who had pitched several Hellraiser ideas over the decades, was given the green light but handed a minuscule budget (estimated at less than $500,000) and a grueling three-week shooting schedule in Oklahoma City. Can’t copy the link right now

Pinhead stepped through. He didn't look at the detective; he looked at the Auditor.

The 2018 installment of the Hellraiser franchise, Judgment, brings a fresh yet familiar take on the series, boasting gruesome visuals and a more focused narrative than its predecessors. However, it falls short in character development and plot execution.
